Micropyles in insect eggsI am looking at micropyle diversity - micropyles are small holes in insect eggs which allow the sperm to enter the egg and fertilise it. Micropyles vary a lot but little is known about this variation and I am trying to find out more with a combination of comparative analyses and experimental work. I have recently started working with Nina Fatouros to explore egg diversity within and between species. I am open to discussing ideas with interested students. If you are interested in working on sperm competition in insects with a combination of lab-based techniques (dissection and microscopy) and/or comparative analyses (phylogenetic methods) please get in touch with me.
